VISION
We envision a world where women are empowered holistically and sustainably.
MISSION
Umeed is a non-profit that promotes women’s empowerment. We aspire to radically alter the mindsets that exist within society and bring about an immediate and lasting difference; one of dignity, security and HOPE for women.
Our programs along with our lifelong network of trust and support equip women with life skills, a progressive mindset and exposure to the world of opportunities around them.
Our mission is to make women take better control of their wellbeing, become self reliant and participate and contribute in a meaningful way to their self learning journey, their family and community.
VALUES

LOVE
We put our love for our stakeholders at the center of all that we do. Be it designing our programs or actually working on the ground, the people we work with are always at the core – we understand where they stand, and why they often do things the way they do. We respect their perspective and beliefs and work in collaboration alongside them.
HOPE
Yes, where there is will and a lot of Umeed in your heart, there is always a way! We lose nothing by trying and failures have only helped us figure out better ways of doing things. We push ourselves and each other, sometimes even beyond our comfort zones to embrace
adversity and try things out, to find ways to make things work.
COURAGE
We see ourselves as very courageous people, true to ourselves over anything else! We stand by our integrity as an alignment between what we say and what we do. We display complete ownership towards that which is entrusted to our care. It not just calls for us to be responsible individuals, but also practise proactiveness and accountability and all that with a very braveheart!

OUR STORY
Whilst completing their fellowships with Teach for India, Gauri Mahendra and Udita Chadha discovered that their grade 2 and grade 3 kids were already showing signs of a regressive mindset towards women. After a series of research, they concluded that one of the major root causes of this problem is the weak role of the mother in the family. The mothers of these children lived in some of the most oppressive circumstances imaginable. After a couple of months, the seeds of Umeed were sown and it was launched in Hyderabad in August 2014, with an aim of inspiring breakthroughs in the way the world treats women and to achieve immediate and lasting change in their lives.
